Commercial Testing Begins For Tunisian Power Plant - First Independent Power Plant in North Africa.

Boston - CME International has announced that commercial testing of the El Biban, Zarzis, Tunisia power plant began on May 6, 2003. El Biban power plant is a natural gas fired 30MW electric power plant. Zarzis is located in the southern region of Tunisia.

CME was the initial developer of the project, eventually partnering with Caterpillar Power Ventures.

CME was responsible for the front-end analysis of economic, financial and technical viability and along with Caterpillar Power Ventures created the financing package for this first independent power plant project in North Africa.

CME International, headquartered in Boston, MA, specializes in the development and financing of energy-related projects around the world. The company has a proven track record and has a reputation of being community-oriented.

William Martin, president of CME said, "When CME initially went to Tunisia we found an investment grade country that was inviting the outside world to invest in their economy and looking for the best talent to create electrical generating facilities". CME put together the project development team of Caterpillar Power Ventures International and Centurion Energy that saw the project to completion.

"Working with our partners we have a remarkable outcome: an operation power plant that will meet the electrical requirements of a remote part of the country and the elimination of a serious environmental problem caused by flared gas".

El Biban power plant utilizes a precedent setting strategy by capturing flared gas from the existing oil wells (owned by Centurion Energy) and utilizing it as fuel, instead of expending it into the environment, and solving a major environmental hazard.
